Ohio Quilts!! 2022 Annual Grant - Application were accepted between Oct. 1, 2021 and Nov.15, 2021.

We have a winner, actually two winners!!   Because there were no applicants in 2021, the Grant committee decided to award two grants this year.  Congratulations to our winners!

The 2022 grants have been awarded to:

CONNECTING THREADS - is a group of individuals who have been meeting monthly at the Powell United Methodist Church in Powell, Ohio for over 15 years.  Some of their past outreach projects include the Million Pillowcase Challenge for Children's Hospital, Quilts for the Delaware County Habitat House, My Very Own Blanket, etc.  Our $500 grant award will assist them in making isolette covers for OSU NICU.  Isolette covers help to control the light and sound in the OSU NICU.  They make the environment darker which protects the babies' eyesight as their eyes are underdeveloped due to being preemies.  Isolette covers allow for better rest and less stimulation for these medically challenged babies.  The families will be able to take home the quilt that was used for their baby.  There will be a label on each quilt acknowledging Ohio Quilts!! part in this project.  Their goal is to make at least 100 of these covers.  Mary Kirkish completed the application and is a member of Ohio Quilts!!

THE WORTHINGTON CHAPTER of DAR- The Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.  Since quilting has long been part of American History, the Worthington Chapter has previously been involved in the Quilts of Valor project.  Our $500 grant will assist the Worthington chapter of DAR to make lap quilts for our veterans, whether confined to wheel chairs in hospitals and /or rehab centers.  Also, they will be sized for use by service members on gurneys.  These quilts not only keep them warm while recuperating but let the servicemen and women know that there are people 'out there' who care about them.  Quilt labels will acknowledge the grant from Ohio Quilts!!  The Ohio DAR Newsletter will contain an article about this project and the Chapter's Facebook page will chronical their progress.  The goal is to make at least 50 lap quilts.  The Chapter contact person is Vicki Hammersmith, a member of Ohio Quilts!!

They will be reporting on their work at the Annual Meeting in September 2022 and describe what the $500 grant has allowed them to do to further their goals.
